Glenealo Valley in Winter
Glenealo Valley in Winter
This piece was painted on location in the Glenealo valley, taking a number of sessions in the December and January weather, extremely windy and cold at times there was a beautiful winter light here during those weeks. This location is at the miners village in the Glenealo valley nature reserve. It's a wonderful place that sees a lot of hikers coming through on their way around the Spinc loop, but painting here for long sessions I found myself alone for the majority of time only getting the occasional visit from the goats that live here who are descended from the goats the miners brought to the area in the 19th century.
It's a real challenge to complete a painting this size in a location like this due to the canvas acting like a sailboard but I loved every moment of creating this piece. The miners village and the Glenealo valley is a wonderful place with a special atmosphere which draws me back again and again to paint here.
