This piece was painted on location (plein air) at the upper lake in Glendalough, the weather was bitterly cold with a wind coming down the Glenealo valley and off the lake. There is a special light here at Glendalough and painting this in late autumn the colours of the landscape change significantly from summer time. I am continuously drawn to this area of Glendalough because of the Glenealo valley and the light effects that happen here during the day. The huge shadows that fall across the area are a big driver for me with the cliff walls forever changing during the day. It's a challenge to paint and I learn something new every time I work here.

Artwork Details
